Our Senior Citizen Program strives to improve the quality of life of older adults. We do this by providing services designed to foster independence and enable seniors to remain active, functioning members of the community for as long as possible.

The following activities, information, and services are provided especially for persons aged 60 and over by the Leyden Senior Citizen Program:

Information and Referral 末 provides information about community programs and services.

Case Advocacy 末 provides the assessment and the linkage necessary for seniors and their families to access public benefits and services. 

Elder Abuse Program 末 investigates all reports of suspected abuse of seniors. This includes physical, emotional, sexual, confinement, neglect, deprivation, and financial abuse. Anonymous calls are accepted.

Housekeeping 末 provides light housekeeping to impaired elderly persons who are unable to do these tasks.

Transportation 末 provides local transport of seniors for medical appointments and necessary errands. 

Home-Delivered Meals 末 general and special diets are available to homebound residents age 60 and over who are unable to prepare meals for themselves because of functional limitations.

Legal Assistance 末 known as Senior Citizens Legal Services, a program that refers residents to legal assistance in non-criminal matters.

Fuel Energy 末 assists low-income citizens by offsetting the rising cost of home energy through direct financial assistance.

 Income Tax 末 IRS-trained volunteers will help individuals in preparing their tax returns. This is sponsored by the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Triton College.

Will Program 末 offers low-income senior citizens one free, will-related consultation with a lawyer and, if the senior wishes, the low-cost preparation of a "simple will." (Seniors need a single income of $15,000 or less or a combined income of $20,000 or less to qualify.) The following forms are also available: Durable Power of Attorney for Health Care and Durable Power of Attorney for Property and Living Wills. Participating lawyers are supplied by the Chicago Bar Association. APPOINTMENTS ARE NECESSARY.
