When you're
hurting, asking for help is the first step.
Clients seek treatment for multiple reasons. Often it is because their
lives have become unmanageable in one or more
areas. It could be that they are having problems with family
relationships or their job. Or they may be experiencing legal,
medical, or financial difficulties. These are just some of the
factors that motivate a person to seek treatment. The negative
consequences of these "problem areas" in one's life will
often lead a person to finally say, "I'm in trouble. I need
help."
Perhaps you or a person you care about has reached this
level. How do you know if you need help? Here are some questions
you can answer.
Note: In these questions the word drug means an
illegal drug or an addictive medication used more than your doctor
prescribed. (Quiz provided by CAGE-AID, a national evaluation
tool.)
1. Have you ever felt you ought to cut down on your
drinking or drug use?
Yes/No
2. Have people annoyed you by criticizing your drinking
or drug use?
Yes/No
3. Have you ever felt bad or guilty about your drinking
or drug use?
Yes/No
4. Have you ever had a drink or used drugs first thing in
the morning to steady your nerves or get rid of a hangover?
Yes/No
Two or more positive answers suggests a probable alcohol
and/or drug problem.
If you are in trouble or feel you need help, take the
first step. Call the SHARE Intake Department at 1.847.882.4181 for
more information or to schedule an assessment appointment.

FAMILIES AND
THEIR CHILDREN IN TREATMENT, or FACT, is
our holistic substance abuse treatment program for women and their
children who have open Department of Children and Family Services
(DCFS) cases. It is designed for chemically dependent mothers who
reside in the northern and western suburbs of Chicago including
northern Kane County. The program is housed at our SHARE facility
in Hoffman Estates and is a collaboration with Children's Home and
Aid Society of Illinois (CHASI), Leyden Family Services/SHARE, Jewish Vocational Service (JVS), and
Metropolitan Family Services of which Camp Algonquin is a
part.
FACT's purpose is to assist mothers in achieving sobriety
and to help them become more effective parents. Our team of
specialists addresses such issues as under-employment, unsafe
housing, child care, recreation obstacles, and the challenges of
meeting DCFS Service Plan requirements. It is our belief that a
program which provides services that address the specific needs of
women and engages the entire family will remove many of the
obstacles to a woman's recovery.
